St. James Police Division Leads Jamaica in Homicides

At the end of 2025 the St James police division recorded fewer than 100 murders for the first time in over 20 years. But so far in 2026, the division is once again displaying disappointing figures. According to the latest Serious Crime Statistics, St James police division in Jamaica leads the nation in murders. Statistics from January 1 to June 20 indicate that St. James experienced 35 murders, which is nine more than during the same period last year. This number is 15 higher than the 22 murders recorded in St. Andrew South, making it second on the list.

Detectives from Hunts Bay charged Freeman Lane shooter

Detectives in St Ann, Jamaica have arrested a suspect wanted for a fatal gun attack along Freeman Lane in St. Andrew earlier this year. The authorities have identified the suspect as Andre ‘Biggs’ Brown, 21, from Fitzgerald Avenue in Kingston 13. Also, Detectives in St James have charged a suspect with the shooting of a father and his s six-year-old son. The shooting took place earlier this year in Mount Carey. Detectives identified the suspect as Leroy "Chucky” White, 32, a resident of York Bush, Mount Carey, St. James, Jamaica.

INDECOM: Cops killed 11 in 5 shootings, no body camera evidence

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) confirmed that none of the police officers involved in five fatal shootings across four parishes, which led to the deaths of 11 men within 24 hours, were wearing body-worn cameras. According to INDECOM, these incidents involved two quadruple fatal shootings and three single fatal shootings occurring in St. James, St. Catherine, Clarendon, and St. Andrew.
