Wanted Man Fatally Shot in Police Confrontation. Law enforcement shot and killed a suspect who was on their wanted list during a confrontation in Port Morant in St Thomas on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.
Investigators conducted a thorough process. They identified the deceased wanted man as Orville Dennie, 33, o/c Marvin. He was from Airy Castle Road, Stony Hill, in St Andrew.
The police reportedly arrested and charged Shavaun Davis, 20, of Bottom Yard, Bath, in St. Thomas after the incident.
According to the Morant Bay police, at about 1:00 am, a team of officers acted on intelligence. They were committed to public safety. The officers mounted a vehicular checkpoint. This was aimed at apprehending Dennie, who was a wanted man. The St Andrew North Police Division wanted him for murder.
The police acted swiftly and encountered two men traveling on a motorcycle with Davis as the driver. Officers signaled Davis to stop, but he did not comply.
The wanted man allegedly opened gunfire at the police
The wanted man reportedly pulled a handgun from his waistband and opened gunfire at the police. The officers took evasive action and returned the fire, and a shootout ensued.
Dennie, the wanted man, and Davis got off the motorcycle and ran away, but The police pursued them.
After the shooting stopped, officers found the wanted man suffering from gunshot wounds. The officers transported Dennie to the hospital, where the authorities pronounced him dead.
Law enforcement allegedly recovered one Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol during the incident.
Meanwhile, officers chased and apprehended Davis.
The police later charged him with several offenses following an interview. These charges included using a firearm to commit a felony. They also included shooting with intent and possession of a prohibited weapon. Additionally, he faced charges of unauthorized possession of ammunition, escaping from a vehicle, and failing to comply with a lawful order from a constable to stop and allow a search of the motorcycle.
Davis’ court appearance date is pending.
