A suspected gangster from Rosemount in Mount Salem, St. James, has been hospitalized under police guard. The police captured the suspect after he attempted to elude them during an operation in Rosemont on Tuesday.
Superintendent Eron Samuels, head of the St. James Police, said the police conducted a predawn operation in the community searching for wanted men and illegal firearms.
During the operation, officers seized a highly dangerous AK-47 rifle and a magazine with twenty-six 5.56 rounds of ammunition, which could have caused significant harm if used. Also, the officers seized several face masks and firearm cleaning equipment, indicating the suspect’s intent to continue criminal activities.
Further, Samuels said one suspected gangster who attempted to elude the police hurt himself when he jumped over a fence and landed along a hilly terrain.
According to Samuels, when officers captured the suspect, both of his legs were severely injured and broken in several places. The injuries were sustained when the suspect attempted to flee and accidentally fell from a height, not as a result of police action.
Officers transported the wounded man to the hospital, where the medical staff admitted him under police guard.
“We are pleased with this find, as we have been receiving information that there were firearms in this space and shots being fired in the night.
I must applaud the work of the police officers in diligently searching for these weapons, and we continue to push to ensure that we rid the streets of St. James of illegal weapons,” Samuels said, reassuring the public of their safety.
He said the operation was part of a crackdown on criminal activity linked to gangsters in the parish.
Government Increases Resources to Combat Manchester Crime.
In other news, National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang’s promise to increase police resources in Manchester to combat an increase in criminal activities, including murders, is a sign of the government’s commitment to public safety.

Minister Chang spoke to the media on Thursday during a tour of the Mandeville Market and surrounding communities.
There has been an unusual increase in major crimes in Manchester, especially in the Albion and Knockpatrick areas, often linked to gangster activities.
As of October 12, Manchester has recorded 42 murders.
This is approximately 16% more than the number recorded for the corresponding period last year.
As a result, the police have imposed several curfews to stem criminal activity executed by various gang members.
Minister Chang attributes the increase in crime to gangs and lottery scamming.
As part of the policing measures, the authorities have restricted entertainment events in the parish.
Minister Chang implored Manchester citizens to remove criminal elements such as gangsters from their communities to allow for entertainment events.
