Residents of Harkers Hall in St. Catherine took to the streets on Monday to protest after discovering the body of a Spanish Town Hospital employee with multiple gunshot wounds.
Authorities have identified the deceased as Lenroy York from the community.
The news of York’s untimely passing has triggered anger and roadblocks across sections of the community.
According to reports, the protest began after residents discovered York’s body inside an abandoned building. This happened following a community dance on Sunday night.
Reports indicate that York was at the event when police officers approached him, searched him, and took him away. Residents later discovered his body, prompting them to demand answers regarding his passing.
In response, angry residents blocked the main road using old refrigerators and other items. As a result, traffic came to a standstill at multiple locations.
This disruption has affected travelers in Bog Walk, Glengoffe, Above Rocks, and surrounding communities. Because of this, motorists and commuters cannot move freely. The protest also interrupted normal business activities. The circumstances surrounding York’s death are still under investigation.
The head of the St. Catherine North Police Division, Senior Superintendent Hopton Nicholson, stated that the police will be visiting the community.
Meanwhile, the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched a probe into the circumstances surrounding the passing.
The tension in the community remains high as residents await answers about what happened to York. They want to know why he passed after the police removed him from the event.
Two men shot dead in Manchester incidents.
Detectives in Manchester have launched investigations into two homicides that occurred in Heartease and Asia between late Sunday night and early Monday morning.
The authorities have identified the victims as Donald Anderson, a resident of Asia, and the other only by his alias “Tippy”, a resident of Heartease.

Reports indicate that residents in Asia and south Manchester heard loud explosions late Sunday night. They made checks early Monday morning and found Anderson’s body at his home with what appeared to be gunshot wounds.
Police reported that the second victim succumbed after sustaining gunshot wounds in Heartease, near Mandeville, in the early hours of Monday.
According to statistics from the police, as of Saturday, August 29, Manchester has recorded 23 murders, an increase from 19 murders during the same period last year.
