Tragic Incident: Suspect in Girlfriend’s Murder Passes Away
The man suspected of the murder of his girlfriend, 44-year-old Cameka Haley from Charles Town, St Ann, tragically passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2024. The 36-year-old construction worker, Kevon Shirley, had been admitted to Kingston Public Hospital after attempting to end his life by consuming a chemical substance and jumping into a water tank.
Following Ms. Haley’s untimely death, Mr. Shirley’s actions took a devastating turn on January 29, when he reportedly went to Higgins Land in the Alexandria area and made a desperate attempt on his own life. Despite being rescued by the police from the tank, Mr. Shirley’s condition remained critical as he was transferred from St Ann’s Bay Regional Hospital to KPH, where he later passed away.
Ms. Haley, a dedicated attendant at St. Ann’s Bay Regional Hospital, was discovered lifeless inside her home on January 27, her tragic demise shrouded in mystery and sorrow. Her memory lives on, and the community mourns the loss of both individuals involved in this heartbreaking event.
Hotel worker pleads guilty to 9-y-o St Ann girl’s murder.
Troy Ellis, the man accused of a sex crime and murder of nine-year-old Taliyah Thompson in Discovery Bay, St Ann, on September 23, 2023, has pleaded guilty as charged.
The 27-year-old former hotel worker pleaded guilty as charged when he appeared in the St Ann Circuit Court on Thursday, February 1, 2024.
The Presiding High Court Justice, Andrea Pettigrew-Collins, ordered a social inquiry report and an antecedent report before she handed down the sentence scheduled for February 12, 2024.
Taliyah, an upbeat, lovable fourth-grade Discovery Bay Primary School student, was found lifeless inside Ellis’ house at Fort Land Road in Discovery Bay, St Ann, on September 23, 2023.
It was reported that Ellis allegedly lured the child to his house, where he violated her and then stabbed her several times in her upper body.
After his despicable act, Ellis, overwhelmed with guilt, reportedly attempted to end his life. Neighbors reported hearing explosions coming from Ellis’ house and went to investigate, where they found the lifeless body of the nine-year-old child and Ellis suffering from self-inflicted wounds.
The police responded, and Troy Ellis was admitted to St Ann’s Bay Hospital under police guard.
Strangely enough, Ellis escaped from the St Ann’s Bay Hospital. However, Ellis was subsequently recaptured by a licensed firearm holder.
