Mountain View Residents Protest After Police Fatal Shooting. On Monday, January 27, Police shot and killed a suspect during an operation in the crime-infested Mountain View Avenue community.

Law enforcement identified the deceased as Eric Shakespeare, also known as ‘Corrupt,’ 55.

The Police said the fatal shooting unfolded at about 9:00 a.m., Monday morning.

As a result, the security forces and fire brigade responded swiftly and cleared the street, restoring order in the community. Reports emerged of gunfire as the emergency crews removed debris.

The Mountain View Residents Protest resulted in classes at Mountain View Primary School being dismissed early.

According to INDECOM, which is investigating the shooting, the Police conducted a targeted operation on Mountain View Avenue.

During the operation, the police forced entry into a bedroom. They allegedly encountered a man. The man was pointing a firearm at them.

As a result, one law enforcement officer reportedly discharged his weapon.

Unfortunately, Mr. Shakespeare sustained gunshot wounds. The officers quickly transported him to the Kingston Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the authorities.

The Police reportedly recovered a firearm and ammunition at the scene.

The Police High Command reportedly had intelligence. It indicated that Shakespeare was a high-ranking member of the Back Bush gang. He was involved in the trade of firearms, ammunition, and uncustomed cigarettes.

Law enforcement authorities in the United States deported him after serving three years for drug trafficking.

INDECOM Commissioner Hugh Faulkner urged residents to contact INDECOM with any information about the shooting.

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has investigated 22 fatalities involving security forces since the beginning of 2025. The latest police shooting incident on Mountain View Avenue in St. Andrew on Monday makes 23.
