Mother Fights For Life After Son’s Fatal Shooting. The shooting death of a 12-year-old boy and the serious injury of his mother has led the St Andrew North police to start an investigation.

Law enforcement said the shooting unfolded early Friday morning, on January 24, 2025, along Lindsay Crescent in St Andrew.

The police identified the dead child as Kevaughn Ferron.

Mother Fights for Life. Sadly, his mother, a 46-year-old businesswoman, remained hospitalized in serious condition.

Kevaughn’s mother received multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body, while he received a gunshot wound to the chest.

Unfortunately, the young boy succumbed to his injuries at the University Hospital, while his mother fights for life.

At approximately 7:30 a.m., a businesswoman drove a blue Mercedes-Benz along Lindsay Crescent with her son and another passenger. When she reached the stoplight at Dunrobin Avenue, the light turned red, and she stopped the vehicle.

Suddenly, two men on a motorcycle reportedly drove up, and the pillion opened fire on the occupants of the motorcar.

According to The Gleaner, the shooters reportedly escaped along Dunrobin Avenue in the direction of Constant Spring Road.

Mother Fights for Life. Miraculously, the third person in the car was unharmed. This individual drove the injured woman and child to the hospital and contacted the Papine Police Station.

Meanwhile detectives from the Constant Police Station responded to Lindsay Crescent, where they recovered spent casings at the crime scene.

The officers thoroughly checked nearby businesses for the alleged gunmen.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Randy Sweeney leads the St Andrew North Police Division. He reportedly said the police did not confirm a motive for the shooting.

Mother Fights for Life. Sweeney appealed to anyone with information about the shooting to contact the police.

Local small business owners and residents were surprised to see the road blocked off and crime scene investigators at work.

A resident said he heard the explosions but did not know the deadly shooting occurred so close by.

As of January 18, the division has recorded two murders this year. This is one more than during the same period in 2024.

There have been five shooting incidents up to January 18, four more than the number recorded in the previous year.

A total, 177 children under the age of 18 got murdered in Jamaica from 2019 to 2023. Data compiled by the Statistical Institute of Jamaica over these five years show that 130 boys were killed. It also shows that 47 girls were killed. The statistics for 2024 have not yet been published.
