‘Baby Killer’ eluded the security forces, but ‘Scrumbz’ met his demise.

KINGSTON, Jamaica–According to JDF authorities, the November 27, 2023, fatal shooting along Mountain View Avenue in St Andrew, during which a soldier was shot and injured, was a result of security forces searching for Black River lock-up escapee Demar ‘Baby Killa’ Williams.

“Williams is one of the eight prisoners who escaped from the Black River lock-up in June 2023. Since his escape, information received is that he has been reportedly hiding out within communities affiliated with the ‘One Order gang,’ based in St Catherine,” the statement said.

“Due to the State of Emergency imposed in St Catherine, Williams, and other ‘One Order gang’ members were provided a haven in the Mountain View community.”

The JDF also suggests that Williams is a close associate of a prominent ‘One Order gang’ member who frequents the Mountain View Community.

According to reports, the security forces were fired up by threat forces during the search of premises on Mountain View Avenue at about 3 a.m. They took evasive action and returned fire.

When the shooting ceased, one service member and a man were shot and injured.

The police confirmed that hospital authorities pronounced the man dead and admitted the service member for treatment.

The authorities subsequently identified the man as Nevarn Edwards, o/c ‘Scrumbz, age 32.

The JDF says it remains relentless in the joint pursuit of gunmen and criminals and the maintenance of law and order.

The Joint AntiGang Task Force (JAGTF) encouraged residents to support, rather than obstruct, the deployed personnel as they continued operations in Mountain View and other communities.

The Independent Commission of Investigations is probing the shooting.

WESTMORELAND, Jamaica– Law enforcement authorities in Westmoreland confirmed the loss of life of two men hours apart in Westmoreland on Monday, November 27, 2023.

According to reports, hours after a man was shot and killed in Whitehouse, Westmoreland, on Monday evening, another man was reported gunned down in Cave Hill.

The police identified the deceased in Whitehouse by his alias ‘Skatt.’

Deputy Superintendent of Police in charge of operations in the Division, Adrian Hamilton, confirmed the incident and noted that while Scene of Crime Detectives were processing the crime scene in Whitehouse, they were notified of another murder in the neighboring community of Cave Hill.

Reports state that at about 6 pm, ‘Skatt’ stopped to remove a tool from the trunk of his station wagon when a bike rode up, and the assailant(s) fired multiple shots, hitting him in his upper body.

He died at the scene.

The police did not establish a motive for the shooting. The investigation is ongoing.

The second loss of life was in the Gordon district in Whitehouse, where unknown assailants traveling in a white Toyota Axio opened fire on an unidentified man who succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
