KINGSTON, Jamaica–Law enforcement authorities are investigating the death of a 10-month-old baby girl on Monday morning, November 27, 2023, at Bustamante Hospital for Children while she was undergoing treatment.

According to a Radio Jamaica News report, the infant was taken to the hospital last Friday, November 24, 2023, with respiratory symptoms and a fever.
The authorities diagnosed her with bronchopneumonia and sent her home with antibiotics and Panadol.
The family reportedly brought the baby back to the hospital the following day, suffering from frequent vomiting. The child also appeared ill and lethargic. The staff also observed blood in her diaper.
Further examination revealed bruises on the body, including vaginal laceration and bleeding.
The hospital contacted the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA).
While in the hospital over the weekend, the child’s condition worsened. Despite receiving multiple transfusions of blood products, her condition never improved. She ultimately died following an operation.
She reportedly tested positive for dengue at another hospital.
In the meantime, the Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA) stated that it has launched an investigation.
Teacher hospitalized following a three-vehicle collision in Mandeville.
MANCHESTER, Jamaica — Road safety officials confirmed the hospitalization of a high school teacher after being hit by a vehicle during a three-vehicle collision in Mandeville on Monday afternoon, November 27, 2023.

According to preliminary reports, at about 4:20 p.m., the teacher was walking from school on Manchester Road when she was struck by an out-of-control vehicle at the intersection with Grove Road.
According to reports, a Toyota Hilux traveling south from the town center lost control due to possible brake failure and collided with a Toyota RAV4 heading in the opposite direction. The Rav4 then collided with a taxi.
The teacher was rushed to the hospital, where the authorities admitted her for treatment.
There were no other reports of injuries.
Man mowed down on May Pen to Williamsfield Highway.
MANCHESTER, Jamaica—A man died after being mowed down on the May Pen to Williamsfield Highway on Sunday night, November 26, 2023.
Police identified the deceased as Jevon Nembhard, 40, a resident of Comfort Hall District in Manchester.
According to the police report, around 7:50 p.m., Nembhard was driving uphill toward Williamsfield when his vehicle overheated.
He pulled over in the westbound lane, approximately 500 meters from the Williamsfield roundabout.
The police stated that while Nembhard was opening the radiator on the vehicle, hot water started gushing from the unit. In an attempt to escape the scalding water, he ran into the street and ended up in the path of a Honda Stepwagon, which ran him over.
Upon arrival at the hospital, Nembhard was pronounced dead.
The police are currently conducting an investigation.
