District Constable Charged with Smuggling Ganja into Prison
Police Action: Cop found with Contraband, CO held with gun. Detectives from the Kingston Western Division arrested a district constable. They charged him for smuggling contraband into the Horizon Adult Remand Center. Horizon is a high-security facility for pre-trial detainees.
The authorities identified the accused as Robert Campbell, age 25. Campbell faces charges of Dealing in Ganja. He also faces charges of bringing a prohibited article into a Correctional Center. This could result in a significant prison sentence if he is found guilty.
District Constable Campbell was a member of the Detention and Courts Division. Law enforcement brought charges against him following a ruling from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
On Friday, February 21, 2025, at approximately 7:00 a.m., Campbell was at work. A small parcel fell from his pocket. He reportedly tried to hide the item with his foot. This raised his supervisor’s suspicions.
The supervisor, demonstrating commendable vigilance, retrieved and examined the package. It contained vegetable matter resembling ganja.
Police action. As a result, officers searched a knapsack belonging to Campbell in his presence.
During the search, authorities reportedly conducted a thorough examination. They discovered several packages containing plant material that resembled marijuana. Some looked like tobacco. They also found a USB cable and $20,000 in cash.
The police reportedly found a pack of rolling paper and a lighter in the knapsack as well.
Law enforcement placed Campbell in custody. Then, they prepared and submitted a file to the Office of the DPP for a ruling.
District Constable Campbell’s court appearance date is pending.
Police action resulted in the arrest of a correctional Officer for gun Possession
The St Andrew Central police charged a suspect with possession of a prohibited weapon. They also charged him with unauthorized possession of ammunition. This followed a stop and search along Ripon Road in St. Andrew on Sunday, February 23, 2025.

Law enforcement officials identified the accused as Richard Newton, 32, a correctional officer of Thetford district, Old Harbor, St. Catherine.
Police action. According to reports from the Halfway Tree Police, at approximately 2:30 a.m., a team of officers was on patrol. They noticed a motor vehicle driven by Newton, which raised their suspicions. He was signaled to stop and complied with the request.
During a search of the vehicle and Newton, officers seized a Glock 19 handgun. It included a magazine containing nine (9) 9mm rounds.
As a result, the police arrested and charged Newton. He is set to appear in the Gun Court on Friday, March 7.
Police action resulted in the seizure of an illegal Firearm in Temple Hall
On Sunday afternoon, the St Andrew North police seized an illegal firearm in Temple Hall. This marks the ninth such seizure in the Division since the start of the year.
Police action. According to The Gleaner, at about 1:55 p.m., a team of police officers conducted a snap raid in a section of the Temple Hall Community.
During the raid, the police reportedly recovered one Smith and Wesson pistol with the serial number intact. They also found a magazine containing six 9mm rounds.
The police did not make any arrests regarding the seizure of the weapon.
Law enforcement authorities appealed to anyone with information about the weapon. They asked them to contact the Constant Spring CIB at 876-924-1421. Also, they can contact Crime Stop at 311.
