Trending Jamaica News: Rogue correctional officer arrested for possession in a penal institution.
A 28-year-old male correctional officer attached to Kingston’s Tower Street Correctional Center has been held with contraband.
According to reports, on Tuesday, November 30, 2022, at about 2:15 pm, the correctional officer was escorted to the Elliston Road police station by his colleagues after they found him with contraband.
The correctional officer now faces charges of possession and dealing in ganja and introducing contraband into a penal institution. The contraband was reportedly found on his person in the prison facility during a routine search.
Among the items found on his person inside the prison are one Blu cell phone and one paper bag containing two packages with vegetable matter resembling ganja.
The police reportedly interviewed the correctional officer and escorted him back to the facility. Where they searched his car. The cops found five brown paper bags containing ganja and tobacco. They also found two boxes of Rizzla, one cell phone, one Digicel SIM card, and ten lighters.
The police then escorted the correctional officer to his home and conducted another search, but they didn’t find anything illegal.
This arrest is a piece of welcome news to the Jamaican people. However, it’s high time somebody does their job and exposes the smugglers. Our prison facilities are roosting for corruption. Too many people are too comfortable playing the hear no evil, see no evil game.
I hope this arrest serves as a warning to other smugglers that the government is determined to clean up the corruption that is taking place in the nation’s prisons. It is time to weed out the rogues and teach the inmates a hard lesson. Prison is not a social club. When you go to prison, you do a hard time. And you lose privileges.
How do we allow prisoners to post pictures on social media, smoke weed, and even threaten free citizens? It doesn’t make sense.
I am looking forward to hearing about more rogues getting caught. This officer is not the only one.
