Tragedy struck near the Portmore Mall in St Catherine on Monday night when a taxi operator met his demise in an execution-style attack.
The authorities have identified the victim as Andre McKenzie, 36, a resident of Arura Way in Watson Grove, Portmore.
Here are the facts of the incident according to the police via the Gleaner. At approximately 9:30 pm, McKenzie and several other persons were hanging out along Dawkins Drive when a lone gunman approached him.
Then the assailant allegedly opened fire, hitting McKenzie in the head before fleeing the scene on foot.
The police responded to the scene of the tragedy and found McKenzie lying in a pool of red substance on the ground.
The officers quickly transported McKenzie to the hospital, where a doctor pronounced him dead upon arrival.
Investigators have yet to establish a motive for the shooting. However, unconfirmed reports suggest that the cruel attack may be gang-related.
But the Portmore Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) is currently investigating the tragedy. Authorities are urging residents to come forward with any information that could assist the investigation, helping to foster community cooperation and awareness.
