Barnett Street Jailbreak: Cops killed one and recaptured another. On December 14, police shot and killed one of five inmates who had escaped from the Barnett Street Police jail and recaptured another inmate.
Law enforcement identified the deceased as Edgar Spence, 42, a laborer of Belinda district, Flower Hill, St James.

A police source said officers fatally shot Spence during a confrontation at about 11:45 a.m. on Saturday.
The police also recaptured another Barnett Street Jailbreak escapee, Fidel Ferguson, 36, of Mountain View, Greenwood, St James.
At about 3 a.m. on Sunday, the vigilant residents of Paisley district in St James encountered Ferguson and summoned the police, playing a crucial role in his recapture.

Reportedly, residents told police that they found Ferguson suffering from a gunshot wound, and he told them unknown assailants shot him.
The police responded promptly. Upon arrival, officers identified Ferguson, as one of the Barnett Street Jailbreak escapees. He was injured, suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg.
Officers transported Ferguson to the hospital, where he is getting treatment under police guard.
The police made a heartfelt plea to the remaining three Barnett Street jailbreak escapees. They urge them to surrender to the nearest police station for their own safety and the safety of the community.
Meanwhile, the police said the five prisoners escaped custody from the Barnett Street Police Station jail between the hours of 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. on Saturday.
As a result, the police quickly launched a comprehensive search and recapture operation, ensuring the safety of the community.
Three escapees in the Barnett Street Jailbreak are still at large, law enforcement listed them as:
- Tyrese Brown, 22, of Albert Town, Trelawny. He awaits trial for murder and rape
- Daniel McIntosh, 23, of Peddlars Lane, Mount Salem, St James. He faces gun possession charges.
- Maurice Belnavis, 43, of Greens Paradise, Norwood, St James, who the police charged with simple larceny.
