Reportedly, Law enforcement discovered the contraband in a shipment of five barrels from the United States. The sender declared the barrels to contain grocery and clothing items.

Police officials said the guns and ammunition were seized during a joint operation between the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division. Plus, the Jamaica Customs Agency Contraband Enforcement Team.

According to the police, agents randomly inspected the barrels, which resulted in the seizure of the cache of guns.

Items seized in the cache of guns included three fully assembled firearms and various parts like pistol slides, rifle barrels, and magazines.

A preliminary assessment of the parts revealed a potential danger averted, as they could assemble 39 pistols and one rifle.

Also, the police seized a total of 2,819 rounds of various types of ammunition.

Samuel Blake, Senior Superintendent of Police and head of the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division, states that this seizure is a significant setback for criminal organizations operating in Jamaica. This seizure might have saved many lives and prevented further criminal activities in our communities.

Law enforcement identified the accused as Micheal Nelson, 47, a businessman from Farewell Avenue, Kingston 19.

Nelson faces charges of possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorized possession of ammunition.

On December 6, between 9:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., a dedicated police team conducted an intelligence-led operation at Nelson’s place of business located on Constant Spring Road, according to the Constant Spring police.

During the operation, the police reportedly seized a Taurus GZC pistol affixed with a magazine containing six 9mm rounds.

The police arrested Nelson concerning the gun and ammo seizure. They later indicted the accused after a question-and-answer session in the presence of his attorney.

The date for Nelson’s court appearance is eagerly awaited, as the legal process unfolds.
