Police Urges Vigilance Amid Spalding Armed Robbery. Assistant Commissioner of Police Calvin Allen has echoed the JCF’s appeal to business operators and citizens to be vigilant during Christmas.
Allen, who is in charge of Police Area Three, which comprises Clarendon, Manchester, and St Elizabeth, insisted on people being cautious and maintaining vigilance.
He reminded business owners and the general public that this is the Yuletide season. Whether you are a business owner or an individual doing personal shopping, using an ATM, or making large cash withdrawals, it is essential to stay extremely alert and practice vigilance.
He made this statement to journalists in response to a question at the scene of an armed robbery that turned into a shootout in Spalding on Sunday.
The police arrested four suspected gunmen after a two-hour standoff at a supermarket. One officer was shot and wounded during the incident.
ACP Allen said the police have increased their numbers on the streets, emphasizing the need for vigilance among citizens.
He emphasized that the swift police action in Spalding, which prevented a robbery, is a clear demonstration of their commitment to public safety.
The senior cop said the police would be out in their numbers in all shapes and forms to offer needed protection to the public.
But, he encouraged all business operators to be vigilant while doing business during the busy shopping season. Further, he advised them to engage with local officers to ensure their safety.
Mr. Allen advised business owners to call the police when they have money to be transferred or moved to a particular area. He assured them that the police were ready and willing to provide the necessary support to instill a sense of security in the business community.
Additionally, ACP Allen praised the police team that responded to the Spaldings incident, expressing his pride in their swift and effective action.
“The officers deserve high praise for effectively applying their training from various tactical departments,” he stated, underscoring the importance of vigilance in every operation.
Allen reiterated the JCF’s unwavering commitment to law, order, and security, assuring the public of their dedication to protecting them.
