Rushawn Patterson and his chargie, Rohan Rose, the two men facing charges relating to the death of one of Jamaica’s favorite social media personalities, Slickianna Townsend, have been remanded in custody with separate dates for bail application. Patterson’s next court date is December 15, 2022. And Rose is remanded until November 28, 2022. The accused men’s attorneys will try to convince the judge to grant bail.
The men appeared before High Court Justice Andrea Thomas on Wednesday, November 23, 2022. Both cases were heard separately.
Patterson is charged with the murder of Slickianna, and his bail application date is December 15, 2022. Rose is accused of misprision of a felony for failing to report a crime. His bail application date is November 28, 2022.
The lawyers for both accused sounded optimistic that their client would be granted bail at the next hearing of their case. Unfortunately, sometimes attorneys miscalculate the weight of the evidence against their clients. Even though there is no eyewitness in Patterson’s case, it might not be challenging to prove that he is the murderer.
A judge granting an accused bail doesn’t always mean the case against the accused is weak. Often, a judge will grant an accused bail notwithstanding the gravity of the case. So long as the judge believes remanding the accused for prolonged periods would jeopardize his health or financial well-being.
For example, the case that Dancehall artist Ninja Man is doing time for took about eight years to finalize, and the artist was on bail for a good portion of those years. Then, finally, he went to his trial, and the judge remanded him in custody, and that was it.
