As a Dancehall and Reggae fan, I have grown accustomed to seeing artists show off their latest dream house or new whip. But it is rare, if ever at all, to see an artist, male, or female, step up to the plate and use their own money to help a worthy cause. And even though I know the kind-hearted individual can reclaim the gift on her income tax. It’s a big deal.
The Observer reports that Dancehall artist, Shenseea has pledged to cover final year expenses at the University of the West Indies, Mona, for law student Monifa Peterson.

Peterson, 25, who hails from Red Ground, St Cathrine, thought her dream of becoming an attorney-at-law would not materialize. High tuition had her on her heels. However, weeping may last for a night, but joy comes in the morning. Monifa Peterson was emotionally thankful when she learned Shenseea would cover her final year tuition of U$10,000.
Back in May of 2022, Shenseea announced via social that she would take up the challenge to help fans pay their school fees if they prove they could not.
A big Shenseea fan, Peterson said she found out about the schoolships on Instagram. And she was asked to submit a letter stating why she thinks she is a worthy candidate for one of the scholarships.
In an interview with the Observer, Peterson said:
“When I found out I was awarded I cried and thanked them one million times because they were right on time. I work full-time while going to school and I also support some of my siblings financially so I had a huge financial obstacle lightened. It’s like Shen came and took the world off of my shoulders or said: ‘Come girl, come make me help you carry this!”
When asked what she admires most about Shenseea, Peterson said her work ethic. She said the artist works hard on her craft, and she keeps improving in every aspect year after year.
The 26-year-old Shen Yeng boss became well known in 2016 with the song ‘Loodie,’ a collaboration featuring Vybz Kartel. She released her debut album, ALPHA, in march of 2022.
