The St. Mary Circuit Court has sentenced Constable Patrick Walters to 22 years and six months in prison. He was found guilty of neutralizing his girlfriend at her home in Richmond, St. Mary, last June. The incident happened during a dispute over a phone call.

The judge also sentenced Constable Patrick Walters to 20 years and three months for using a firearm to commit a felony. Justice Tara Carr handed down the sentences on Friday, October 2, 2026. She ruled that they are to run concurrently.

Initially, the police had charged Walters with homicide, but he pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the St Mary Circuit Court.

The charges were in connection with the death of 20-year-old D’Jonnay Graham on June 25, 2025.

On the evening of the incident, around 9:15 p.m., Walters was at Graham’s home. At that time, a dispute arose between them, which resulted in Walters sustaining apparent gunshot wounds.

When the police arrived at the scene, they discovered both Constable Patrick Walters and Graham with apparent gunshot injuries.

Emergency personnel transported both victims to Port Maria Hospital, where Graham ultimately succumbed to her injuries.

Following the incident, investigators conducted an inquiry. Subsequently, they submitted their findings to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
