Time and again, we hear of accused murderers granted bail and failing to show up for their trial. This is the second case in two months. And in both cases, the accused men had a dialog with their respective attorneys earlier in the day but failed to appear in court. It is clear to me that these people are making a mockery of the Judicial system. And until the Justice system starts holding sureties accountable, this nonsense will not stop.
The man charged with the murder of attorney-at-law clover Graham failed to show up in court for the start of his trial. As a result, the judge issued a bench warrant for his arrest.
Quron Patterson, o/c Q, a laborer of Gordon Pen, Spanish Town, St. Cathrine, whose bail was extended to appear in the Home Circuit for the start of his trial at 10: 00 am Thursday, January 12, 2023, did not appear…
But Zara Lewis, the attorney representing the accused, told the court that she had spoken with Patterson at about 7:45 a.m. in the morning. And she hasn’t been able to reach him or his relatives since. Patterson was still not in court at 11: am.
Graham was found in bushes in Caymanas Estate, St Cathrine, with her throat slashed on August 19, 2012, after being reported missing by her family.
The Crown alleges that Graham, employed at the Legal Aid Clinic in Kingston, was abducted from her home by the accused and subsequently murdered.
The autopsy report stated that Graham died due to an incised wound to her neck.
Patterson was among three men who were arrested and charged with murder and conspiracy to murder in October 2012 in connection to Graham’s killing.
But the other two defendants – Simeon Lewis, a contractor, and Shannon Campbell, a laborer from Gordon Pen – have since decided to give evidence for the prosecution.
