Cybercrime police have charged a man from Portmore, St Catherine, for allegedly making threatening remarks and inciting violence against members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF). The charges stem from a malicious video he allegedly posted on social media.
Authorities have identified the suspect as Kevaughn Spencer, also called ‘Asus Major’ and ‘Kevydan Blazing’, 30, of Phoenix Vista, Portmore.
Investigators have charged Spencer under the Cybercrime Act for use of a computer for malicious communication. He is also charged for use of audio or audio-visual communication to promote criminal activity.
According to the police report, on Friday, September 18, at approximately 6:18 a.m., cybercrimes investigators uncovered a malicious video on a social media platform. This video allegedly incited violence against members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and their families. Moreover, it promoted general disorder and violence towards law enforcement personnel.
Consequently, the authorities initiated an investigation that helped them identify Spencer as the suspect.
In response, a team of officers from the Transnational Crime Investigation Division conducted an operation at Spencer’s residence in Portmore, on Thursday, September 24. The St Catherine South Operations Support Team supported them. However, he was not at home.
On Saturday, September 26, at around 8:30 p.m., Spencer surrendered to the police with his attorney present. Later, the police charged him after interview.
The police reminded the public that making threats and inciting violence online is a serious crime. Those responsible may face prosecution.
Also, the authorities say the JCF takes all cyber threats and incitements of violence seriously. Furthermore, they will take a zero-tolerance approach.
Pops YG arrested in Trelawny raid while livestreaming at home.
According to reports, early Monday, police stormed entertainer and social media personality Pops YG’s home in Trelawny and arrested him. Unconfirmed reports indicated that he was in the middle of a livestream when armed police officers apprehended him.
The police nabbed Ansel Fairclough, known as Pops YG, on reasonable suspicion of violating the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transactions) (Special Provisions) Act, commonly referred to as the lottery scam law, as confirmed by his attorney, Donnovan Collins.
The police apprehended Fairclough at his home in Holland Estate, Trelawny, where he was with several other men.
According to reports, a video of the operation shows the police, with guns drawn, entering the premises and shouting. Fairclough appeared surprised by the sudden police action.
As of midday on Monday, the police have not yet filed charges against Fairclough, according to his lawyer. Pops YG’s attorney noted that the Bail Act allows the police 48 hours to either charge Fairclough or release him.
