Violent Crime: Taxi Operator Killed, Passenger Wounded in Jamaica

Gun Violence in Jamaica: Latest Incidents and Arrests. Police in Old Harbor, St. Catherine, Jamaica, reported that on Friday afternoon, a man traveling on a bike shot and killed a taxi operator. He also injured a passenger along the Old Harbor Road in St Catherine.

Law enforcement officials have yet to release the identity of the deceased or prove a motive for the deadly shooting.

The injured passenger, who hospital authorities admitted, remains hospitalized in an unstable condition.

According to reports, around 4:10 PM, a taxi operator was driving with a passenger along the roadway. Upon reaching a section of the road near a church, a gunman on a motorcycle rode up alongside the vehicle. He opened fire and hit both men multiple times.

Good Samaritans rushed the latest victims of gun violence in Jamaica to the Spanish Town Hospital. The authorities pronounced the taxi operator dead on arrival and admitted the other man.

The police have launched a search to capture the perpetrator of the deadly gun violence in Jamaica. They urged anyone with information to contact the Spanish Town police or Crime Stop at 311.

In St. Mary, Jamaica, a construction worker of a St Mary address was on the run for shooting with intent. The police caught the suspect in Snow Hill, Portland, on Thursday, April 8.

A police source identified the suspect as Jason Anderson, 33. He is also known as ‘Skidda’ or ‘Skebo’. He is from Sandside, Port Maria, and Snow Hill in Portland.

According to police reports, officers acted on information received and carried out an operation that led them to arrest Anderson. He was cutting grass along the main road in Snow Hill.

The police arrested and charged Anderson with possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorized possession of ammunition, and wounding with intent. Plus, using a firearm to commit a felony.

Anderson allegedly shot and injured a fellow construction worker in 2022 at their job site in the Sandside community.

The complainant reportedly sustained a gunshot wound to his right wrist following an argument between the two men.

During the argument, Anderson threatened the complainant with deadly gun violence before leaving the scene.

Later, Anderson returned with a firearm and used it to shoot the complainant.

He had been on the run until his capture..

Law enforcement said Anderson’s court appearance date is pending.
