Fatal Violence Erupts in St. James
On Sunday, May 19, 2024, a grave incident unfolded in St. James as law enforcement officials deployed additional resources to quell the ongoing mayhem in the parish. Tragically, a man lost his life when gunmen opened fire on the vehicle he was traveling in.
The victim, identified as 23-year-old unemployed Omar Johnson from Lethe in Anchovy, St James, was fatally struck by the gunfire. Another individual in the vehicle sustained gunshot wounds and was hospitalized for treatment.
Reports indicate that the attack occurred at approximately 7:32 p.m. as the two men were traveling along the Long Hill main road in Montego Bay. Upon reaching a school in the area, unknown assailants unleashed a hail of bullets on their vehicle, causing the driver to lose control and crash. Residents discovered the injured men at the scene and rushed them to the hospital, where Johnson tragically succumbed to his injuries.
This unsettling incident took place following the reinforcement of the St James Police Division’s workforce and the establishment of a branch of the Beat Officer Patrol Division in Montego Bay.
Gunmen Attack and Fatally Shoot St. Elizabeth Resident.
In the early hours of Tuesday, May 21, 2024, a group of gunmen entered the residence of a pump attendant in Pepper district, St. Elizabeth, leading to her tragic demise.
The victim was identified by authorities as Sherine Farquharson, a resident of Pepper district in St. Elizabeth.
Reports indicate that Farquharson was at home with family members when the assailants forcibly entered her bedroom and opened fire. Upon hearing the gunshots, the relatives fled the premises, seeking refuge in the nearby foliage.
Law enforcement swiftly arrived at the scene and discovered Farquharson’s lifeless body beneath her bed, having sustained several gunshot wounds.
The police did not establish a motive for the shooting. The investigation is ongoing.
Fatal Shooting of Woman in Commodore, St Catherine.
The Commodore district in Linstead, St Catherine, is grieving after a beloved friend and neighbor was fatally shot on the night of Monday, May 20, 2024. The victim has been identified by police as 50-year-old Georgia Dwarka. This incident marks the third such loss in the community within three weeks.
Police reports indicate that around 11:30 p.m., neighbors heard loud noises resembling explosions emanating from Dwarka’s residence and decided to investigate.
Upon entering, they discovered Dwarka on the floor in a pool of a red substance. She was subsequently declared deceased shortly after her arrival at Linstead Hospital.
No motive for the killing has been determined by the police.
Tension pervades the community as the investigation into Dwarka’s death and the recent increase in violence continues.
On May 17, 2024, the police issued a warrant for Glendon Amos, also known as “Bull,” for multiple offenses, including shootings in the Linstead area, and have called for his immediate surrender. They have also cautioned that harboring him is considered a grave crime.

Fatal Shooting in Westmoreland, Jamaica
A tragic incident unfolded in Bethel Town, Westmoreland, on Monday morning, May 20, 2024, resulting in the death of 23-year-old Anthony Evans, also known as ‘AJ.’ Evans, a laborer from Argyle Mountain, lost his life when men posing as police officers entered his home at 1:30 am.
The unsettling events began when three armed men approached the one-room board dwelling where Evans and his 17-year-old girlfriend were located. Upon hearing the intruders claim to be police, the young girl sought refuge under the bed while Evans went to the entrance. A sudden, deafening explosion echoed through the air, and moments later, the assailants forced their way in and opened fire on Evans.
Following the fatal attack, the perpetrators fled on foot toward Bethel Town. Law enforcement was promptly notified, and upon arrival, Evans was found lying on his right side, gravely injured. Despite being rushed to the Savanna-la-Mar Public General Hospital, Evans succumbed to his injuries.
As authorities continue their investigations, the community is left with unanswered questions and a deep sense of loss.

A taxi operator, Kemar Minott, tragically lost his life when he was shot at the intersection of Mountain View Avenue and Windward Road in Kingston on Tuesday afternoon, May 21, 2024.
