Police charged a St Elizabeth man with the murder of his sister
Police in St Elizabeth charged a suspect with the murder of his sister, Iyanla Hicks, 20, at their family home in Sunny Heights, Thornton district.
Law enforcement identified the accused as Daniel Francis, o/c ‘Cutty,’ a resident of Thornton.
The Police said one of Hicks’ siblings found her dead last Friday evening, February 7, 2025, the Police say.
According to reports, a sibling visiting the family home found Hicks lying in a pool of blood in her room. The sibling reportedly gained entry to the room by kicking the door open.
Police believed Hicks was killed sometime between 4:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on February 7.
The Police had taken Hicks’ brother into custody as a suspect. But, they charged him with murder after further investigation on Sunday.
While searching the family home, the Police reportedly found a shovel in Francis’ room. They believed the shovel was the murder weapon.
Law enforcement said Hicks’ killing is the first murder reported in St. Elizabeth since the start of the year.
Hicks’ killing sent shock waves through northern St Elizabeth, particularly at Aberdeen High, where she was a trainee.
