Portmore municipality not consulted on proposed parish boundary, says mayor
Doubts Raised Over Consultation with Portmore Municipality Regarding Proposed Parish Boundary, According to Mayor.
The Mayor of Portmore, Leon Thomas, strongly rebuts assertions that the municipal authorities were consulted about the proposed boundaries for the parish of Portmore.

During a post-Cabinet press briefing on Wednesday, Information Minister Robert Morgan announced that the Cabinet had approved the boundaries after engaging with various entities, including the National Land Agency, Portmore Municipal Corporation, and other relevant stakeholders within and outside the government.
Contrary to this statement, Mayor Thomas stated that the municipal corporation was not involved in any decision-making process concerning the proposed boundaries.
According to the Mayor, the Ministry of Local Government had presented a proposal to the municipal corporation, to which they responded by indicating the need for mutual agreement. He emphasized that they had responded to the Ministry’s letter in June of the previous year.
Additionally, Mayor Thomas expressed surprise at the announcement of the Cabinet’s approval of the Portmore boundary, highlighting the municipality’s lack of support for the proposed boundary and asserting that they were not involved in the processes conducted by the NLA and other agencies.
The Mayor underlined the importance of conducting consultations with the community before finalizing any boundaries, stressing that critical matters such as infrastructure development timelines and the potential election of a mayor must be addressed.
