Tensions are high in Portland, Jamaica as police increase security. This follows shocking intelligence that a particular gang leader has vowed, “at least one police officer must die.” The alleged threat is in response to a deadly police operation early last week.
The threat emerged following a police confrontation in Sherwood Forest, East Portland on Wednesday morning. During the exchange of bullets, two alleged high-ranking gang members unfortunately are no longer with us.
Law enforcement identified the deceased as 21-year-old Troy McKenzie and 21-year-old Marlon Lewis. The police said both men are from Kingston and believed to be key figures in a gang operating in the Corporate Area.
According to a bulletin from the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s National Intelligence Bureau, the gang leader linked to the threat was reportedly seen near the Port Antonio Police Station just hours after the fatal encounter.
This development has prompted an increased state of alert among police officers in the parish, as they prepare for potential retaliation.
Reports indicate that during the operation, the two men engaged the police in a shootout.
Two firearms were recovered at the scene, including a silver and black Taurus G3 pistol with a magazine containing three rounds, and another silver and black Taurus pistol with one round in the chamber.

Police launched manhunt after 70-y-o farmer found with throat slashed in Point Hill, St Catherine
On Friday, April 24, 2026, residents from the Point Hill district in St Catherine found the lifeless body of one of their neighbors. The tragedy has sent shockwaves throughout the community, prompting the police to launch an investigation.
Law enforcement identified the deceased as Harold “Harry” Hanson, 70, a farmer from the Mendez district in Point Hill..
According to the police, around 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Hanson went to his farm and did not return home. His relatives made several attempts to reach him, but he did not answer his phone.
Concerned, his relatives and residents went out to search for Hanson and found him around 9:30 p.m. He was discovered with a lacerated throat.
The distraught search party called the Point Hill police for assistance. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Hanson lying on his back in a section of his farm, clutching a machete, with a wound on his neck.
Law enforcement processed the scene and transported the body to a funeral home, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted.
So far, the police have not established a motive for this tragic event.
The Spanish Town Criminal Investigation Branch is currently investigating the case.
