He allegedly attacked a business owner and stole half a carton of cigarettes. He then fled the scene. During his escape, the suspect left his cell phone behind, which he later called, ultimately leading to his arrest.

The authorities identified him as Rayando Riley, 24, a chef and barber of Rose Heights, Montego Bay.

Detectives charged Riley with robbery with aggravation.

The Barnett Street Police stated that at approximately 3:45 a.m. Riley and an accomplice visited the complainant’s place of business on Jimmy Cliff Boulevard in Montego Bay, Jamaica. This happened on Tuesday, July 15.

The men approached the complainant, and Riley allegedly told her he had a gun, then he demanded money.

Surprisingly, the complainant resisted, and a struggle reportedly ensued between her and Riley.

During the struggle, Riley allegedly punched the complainant multiple times before taking a half carton of cigarettes valued at $6,300.

While fleeing the scene, a mobile phone fell from a bag Riley was carrying.

The complainant reported the matter to the Barnett police in Montego Bay, Jamaica, and handed them the cellphone.

Later, Riley reportedly called the phone, and the police told him to come to the station to retrieve it.

Upon his arrival, the complainant positively identified him to the police, who arrested and charged him.

His court appearance date is pending.

In Other News. The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is probing three separate police fatal shootings. These incidents occurred in Spanish Town, St Catherine, Jamaica. They took place on Thursday morning, July 17.

According to reporting by The Jamaica Gleaner, the first shooting took place in Dela Vega City about 5:45 a.m.

The second incident reportedly occurred in New Nursery at approximately 5:50 a.m., and the third in Dam Head at approximately 6:10 a.m.

The deceased are all men who the police have yet to ID, but say they are linked to gang activity. the

Reportedly, the men met their demise during alleged confrontations with the police.

The police say they have recovered one firearm in each incident.

According to INDECOM, as of July 15, there were 173 fatalities during police confrontations in Jamaica.

The Jamaican police fatally wounded 189 persons in 2024.
