Fatal Shooting in St Catherine Leaves Man Dead and Policeman Injured.

An unidentified man was fatally shot by the police, and a policeman sustained injuries during a reported confrontation in Bois Content, Old Harbour, St Catherine, on the morning of Wednesday, June 26, 2024. The police stated that around 2:40 a.m., officers from the St Catherine South Division were conducting an operation in the Bois Content area.

The officers reportedly encountered heavy gunfire in a part of the community, to which they responded with counter-fire, leading to a gunfight.

After the gunfire ended, a man with gunshot wounds was found holding an Infratech sub-machine gun, loaded with a magazine full of ammunition.

The man, not yet identified by the police, later died of his injuries at the hospital.

Additionally, a constable who incurred a broken leg during the operation has been hospitalized for treatment.

The Independent Commission of Investigations has launched a probe into the incident.

Investigation Underway into Fatal Shooting of Street Vendor in Spanish Town, Jamaica

Authorities at the Spanish Town PD in St Catherine, Jamaica, are currently investigating the tragic shooting of a street vendor along March Pen Road on the night of Tuesday, June 25, 2024.

The victim has been identified as Christopher Mattis, 37, a resident of Corletts Road in Spanish Town, St Catherine.

According to reports, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Mattis was operating his stall on March Pen Road when he was approached by three armed individuals who proceeded to open fire, striking him multiple times in the upper body.

Local law enforcement promptly responded and transported Mattis to the Spanish Town Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased by medical authorities.

At this stage, authorities have not determined a motive for the shooting.

28-year-old Taxi Operator Faces Charges for Motor Vehicle Theft.

ST ANDREW, Jamaica—The Constant Spring Police have charged a taxi operator with the larceny of a motor vehicle after a car was stolen from the Cornfield district in Gordon Town, St Andrew, between Thursday, June 20, and Friday, June 21, 2024.

The suspect is identified as 28-year-old Shemar Tyrell from Lower Mall Road, Kingston 11.

The Constant Spring police report that around 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2024, the complainant had securely locked his vehicle in his driveway before going to bed.

Around 1:00 a.m. on Friday, June 21, 2024, the complainant received a notification that his vehicle was spotted driving in the Mannings Hill Road area of St Andrew.

He promptly reported the incident to the police, who quickly located the vehicle in Tyrell’s possession.

Tyrell was arrested and charged after a question-and-answer session with his attorney present.

The date for his court appearance is yet to be announced.

D’Angelo Gordon, a 32-year-old teacher from Wallens Housing Scheme in Linstead, St. Catherine, was granted bail set at $Ja 600,000 in the St. Elizabeth Parish Court on Tuesday, June 25, 2024. He faces charges under the Firearms Act for possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorized possession of ammunition after a police operation on Pedro Plains main road on Sunday, June 2, 2024.

The police report states that around 1 a.m. on the said day, Gordon was driving a car with another individual when they were stopped. A subsequent vehicle search revealed a 9mm Ruger pistol and 20 rounds of ammunition belonging to Gordon.

Further investigation led to Gordon’s residence where an additional 50 rounds of ammunition were confiscated.

In court, Judge Steve Walter instructed Gordon to hand over his travel documents to the Black River Court Office and imposed a stop order at all exit ports. Gordon is required to check in at the Linstead police station on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 25, 2024.
