Convict and attorney dissatisfied with prison sentence.
On Thursday, June 27, 2024, a St Ann Parish Court judge sentenced former NCB wealth advisor Khadene Thomas to 24 months in prison for allegedly stealing $74.5 million.
According to Observer Online, the convicted woman and her attorney express deep disappointment at the 24-month custodial sentence she received.
Thomas, who served as a wealth advisor at the National Commercial Bank in Ocho Rios, St Ann, was handed a 24-month hard labor sentence for uttering forged documents and a 12-month term for larceny as a servant in St Ann’s Bay Parish Court on Thursday, June 27, 2024.
Both sentences are to be served concurrently.
Despite her attorney’s plea for a suspended sentence, the judge granted her a 30% discount, taking into account her positive social inquiry report and lack of prior convictions.
In February 2024, Thomas pleaded guilty to defrauding three of NCB’s customers of millions while employed as a wealth advisor. She admitted to three counts of larceny as a servant and 31 counts of uttering forged documents.
Thomas has already repaid NCB US$100,000 of the US$400,000 she embezzled.
The police charged Thomas under the Cybercrimes Act in 2023.
Evidence disclosed in court suggested that during her two-year tenure managing the company’s wealth portfolios, she falsified clients’ signatures on a debit instrument, debited their accounts, and transferred funds to multiple accounts, including her own.
Her attorney stated that the 36-year-old deeply regrets her actions and has fully accepted responsibility for her wrongdoing.
