St. Thomas Police Launched Probe into Teen’s Murder. Detectives in St. Thomas have launched an investigation into the murder of a teen girl. She was allegedly chopped to death in the Prospect community by a man many believed was of unsound mind.
Preliminary reports suggest that the tragedy occurred on Wednesday afternoon, July 2, 2025.
The teen, who is the daughter of a serving member of the JCF, is identified as Teyanna Sutherland. She was 14 years old. She arrived on the island days before her demise for summer vacation.
The circumstances leading to the incident are unclear. But, residents reported seeing a man fleeing the scene in bloodstained clothing.
During a search of the area, local residents discovered Teyanna lying in a pool of blood.
Residents rushed her to the hospital, where the authorities pronounced her dead.
St. Thomas Police charged a suspect with abduction and sexual assault
Detectives in St. Thomas, Jamaica, have formally charged a suspect with multiple offenses. He allegedly abducted and sexually assaulted the female complainant on June 20, 2025. The crime occurred along the Albion Main Road near Yallahs in St Thomas.

The accused is Richard Cummings, o/c ‘Richie’, 23, of Heartease district, in Yallahs, St Thomas.
Investigators charged Cummings with possession of a prohibited weapon, sexual assault, and robbery with aggravation. The police also charged Cummings with abduction, aiding and abetting, and grievous sexual assault.
The Yallahs Police in St. Thomas stated that the incident occurred at about 7:30 pm on June 20. At that time, the complainant was a passenger in a Toyota motorcar. She was traveling from Yallahs in St. Thomas to Kingston.
Upon reaching a section of the road, the driver picked up a male passenger. Then, he reportedly turned off the main road onto an unfamiliar route.
Moments later, the male passenger brandished a gun and allegedly pointed it at the complainant.
The driver stopped the car, and the men reportedly removed the complainant’s clothes and sexually assaulted her.
Then, they robbed her of an Apple iPhone XR valued at $35,000.
The complainant reported the incident to the Yallahs Police in St. Thomas, and the police arrested Cummings. The authorities later charged him after the complainant positively identified him at an identification parade.
Cummings’ court appearance date is pending.
