Tragic Death of 4-Year-Old in Gun Mishap: Mother Charged. In Manchester, Jamaica, the police have formally charged the mother of a four-year-old girl. The girl was fatally wounded at their home in Mandeville on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.
The accused, Yanique Brown, 38, an administrative assistant, faces charges of child neglect. She also faces charges of failure to securely store a firearm and ammunition.
Law enforcement charged Brown on Monday, May 26, 2025, after a question-and-answer session with detectives. Then, they granted her station bail.
Brown’s court appearance date is pending.
Investigators said 4-year-old Gia Grinnell reportedly died tragically from a gunshot wound to the back of her head. She sustained the fatal wound during a shooting incident on Ingleside Boulevard on Tuesday night, May 20, 2024.
The police said Gia’s 12-year-old sibling and their mother were at home when the shooting occurred.
The mother reportedly told detectives that she had put both children to bed and had gone to use the bathroom.
While there, she heard an explosion.
The mother, a licensed firearm holder, reportedly told the police that she had left her licensed firearm in a handbag.

On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, investigators from in St. Andrew Central Division in Jamaica, arrested a licensed firearm holder. The arrest is in connection with the shooting of a neighbor during a dispute in Papine, St Andrew.

The incident, which was captured on a security camera, occurred on Tavern Avenue in St. Andrew.
Cops identified the deceased as Norris Farquharson, 57, a utility company worker.
In the video, the man in custody confronts Farquharson. Farquharson is wearing a hard hat and a workman’s vest.
According to media reports, both men live at the same address on Tavern Drive.
An argument ensued.
During, the argument, the man stepped back, reached for his waistband, pulled a gun, and opened fire, hitting Farquharson twice.
As a result, Farquharson collapsed and fell to the ground.
Concerned residents rushed Farquharson to the University Hospital of the West Indies, where the authorities pronounced him dead.
The police later responded. They processed the scene, launched an investigation, and arrested the licensed fire arm holder. But they have withheld the identity of the accused pending further investigations.
