A 26-year-old Westmorelander whose name the police withheld is in police custody after a 4-year-old baby girl accused him of sexually abusing her. The accusation left the entire community in wonderment. Nobody believes the child. Everybody thinks the accused is incapable of committing the despicable act. The accused, who lives across the street from the child, is a friend of the child’s parents.

But one thing is undeniable, the child’s vagina was disturbed. A female cousin who raised the alarm said she was bathing the child. And she complained that her vagina was itching, so she examined the child’s vagina and saw signs of abuse. The child told the cousin who the culprit was, but she could not remember how many times he molested her, except to say a nuff time.

The cousin said she asked the child why she did not tell her parents, and she said they would beat her. Because her mother beats her whenever she tells her anything. It is safe to say the child told her mother what was going on she did not believe it. Even when the cousin told her, she did not believe it. So the cousin invited her to look at the evidence. The police were called in, and the child was taken to the hospital for treatment. She remains in the hospital.

The community is in shock. Everybody has something good to say about the accused. Nobody can imagine such a nice quiet mannerable young man would do such a wicked act.

The accused mother is convinced her son is innocent. He told her he was not guilty. One man said he could not believe the accused would commit such a horrible crime. Another said I can’t believe he did that. He is so calm and innocent. Yet another said the accused is a good boy. He doesn’t give any trouble. A grandaunt said if the accused did not do it, somebody else did-suggesting that the child’s vagina had been violated.
