Murder Report: Canadian among two murderd, probe launched

Murder Report. Detectives from the Major Investigation Division (MID) have launched a probe into the double murder of a Canadian citizen and a woman St James female. Both were fatally wounded by unknown gunmen in Greenwood, St James, on Thursday night, January 30, 2025.

Police identified the deceased as 61-year-old Clayton Cooke. He was a former citizen of Toronto, Canada. They also identified 37-year-old cashier Gem Cooke. She was a late resident of Greenwood, St James.

Murder Report. A police report indicated that at about 8:10 p.m., the Canadian was dropping off the cashier at her home. Suddenly, men armed with guns appeared and opened fire, hitting them.

The assailants then made their escape in the motorcar which Cooke was driving.

Residents summoned the Police after hearing explosions. Upon arrival, officers found the bullet-riddled bodies of the two victims.

Law enforcement quickly transported the victims to the hospital, where members of the medical staff pronounced them dead.

The Police later recovered Cooke’s vehicle after the gunmen abandoned it in the general area where they committed the crime.

The Police have yet to prove a motive for the shooting. The investigation is ongoing.

Law enforcement identified the suspects as Ticy Smith of East Queen Street and 18-year-old Ajahni Porter of West Street.

Murder Report. Detectives indicted both suspects with several charges. These include murder and conspiracy to commit murder. They also include possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorized possession of ammunition, and using a firearm to commit a felony.

All charges are related to the fatal shooting of 28-year-old Chevon Dawkins of Wild Street, also in downtown Kingston.

The Kingston Central Police reported that at about 3:15 a.m., Dawkins and a friend were in a motor vehicle. Porter and Smith were in another vehicle. They signaled him to stop.

Dawkins complied after recognizing Smith and Porter, with whom he had previously had a verbal altercation. Porter then allegedly brandished a firearm. He pulled Dawkins to the back of the vehicle and opened fire. He hit him multiple times before fleeing the scene.

Murder Report. Dawkins later died at the Kingston Public Hospital while undergoing treatment.

Thorough investigation and witness statements led to the arrest and subsequent charges against Smith and Porter.

Their court date is pending.
