KINGSTON, Jamaica— On Tuesday, May 3, 2023, the authorities busted a Canadian man who attempted to board a flight with cocaine concealed on his body at the Norman Manley International Airport. The man tried to outrun the police.
The police charged the accused, who also has a residence in Jamaica-after they found cocaine valued at approximately CAN$100,000 (J$11.2 million) concealed on his person.
The police identified him as Allister Christie from Above Rocks, St Andrew, and a Mississauga, Ontario address.
The police charged Christie with possession, dealing in, taking steps to export, and conspiracy to export cocaine. He will answer the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court charges on May 9, 2023.
According to the police report, the accused checked in at the Norman International Airport in Kingston to board a flight bound for Canada. And during the security checks, the authorities discovered that Christie had objects strapped to his body. He then attempted to flee the airport. But he had nowhere to go.
The police intercepted the accused, and during a search, Narcotics police found the drugs concealed on his body.
The police arrested and charged him with drug-related breaches.
Unknown assailants killed one man and injured a teen in a Portmore gun attack.
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica – On Wednesday afternoon, May 3, 2023, a gunman shot and killed one man and injured a 17-year-old youth during a brutal attack at a house in Braeton Meadows in Portmore, St Catherine.
The police identified the dead man as 20-year-old Nashawn Lewis, o/c ‘Eddie’ and ‘Craw Man.’
According to the police, at about 1:30 pm, May 3, 2023, the teen and the deceased were among other people inside the house when an unknown assailant entered and opened fire, hitting Lewis in the upper body and the teen in the leg.
Residents assisted them to the hospital, where Lewis died, and the teen was admitted in serious but stable condition.
The brutal attack came in the wake of May 1, 2023, shooting at a car wash in the community where three shooters shot four men, one fatally, before escaping.
Superintendent Hopton Nicholson, operations officer for the St Catherine South Division, said the police are probing to determine whether the two shootings are related.
Investigations are ongoing.
