Standoff in Spaldings: Four Arrested After Supermarket Robbery. Pandemonium erupted in Spaldings near the Manchester-Clarendon border Sunday. Police apprehended four robbery suspects following an alleged shootout in Spaulding, Clarendon, on Sunday. The men, allegedly part of a gang of robbers, barricaded themselves in the storeroom of a supermarket during a brazen robbery.
According to preliminary reports, at about 2:00 p.m., a police team responded to an armed robbery at a supermarket in Spaldings.
Upon arrival, a group of gunmen greeted the officers with a barrage of bullets. The officers took evasive action and returned the fire, resulting in a shootout.
During the shootout, the alleged robbers reportedly barricaded themselves in a storeroom and a standoff resulted.
Law enforcement authorities summoned the Fire Department and the Jamaica Defense Force to help.
As news of the shootout and the standoff spread, scores of shoppers and residents gathered in the Spalding square–some people even went live on their social media platform.
The suspects, who had reportedly locked themselves in a storeroom, were quickly surrounded by the security forces. As the situation escalated, one of the men started live-streaming on Instagram, begging viewers and law enforcement to spare their lives.
Reportedly, after nearly three hours, the standoff between police and gunmen in Spalding, Clarendon ended when the police entered the building.
Outside the storeroom, the police relentlessly pounded on the metal door until they finally breached it. Inside, they reportedly uncovered four illegal firearms, including a powerful AK-47 assault rifle.
The gunmen reportedly surrendered with no further harm to anyone–some begging the police for mercy.
At the end of the standoff, two police officers sustained injuries. Their colleagues transported them to the hospital for medical attention.
According to reports, two alleged gunmen were injured during the reported gun battle.
The Spaldings police Criminal Investigation Branch is probing the incident
