Fake Doctor Scandal: Judge Ordered A Psychiatric Evaluation. A man accused of impersonating a medical doctor and visa agent, defrauding individuals of millions of dollars, was remanded for psychiatric evaluation during his appearance in St. Catherine Parish Court on Friday.
The accused, Andrew Clarke, faces serious charges, including five counts of obtaining money using false pretense. The police also charged Clarke with uttering forged documents, all punishable by law.
Clarke appeared before parish court judge Janelle Nelson-Gayle and pleaded not guilty to the charge of uttering forged documents.
He told the Court that he did not have a legal representative and could not enter a plea concerning the other charge.
Also, The fake doctor confessed to the Court that he was not a medical doctor. Instead, he is a TikTok personality.
Further, Clarke said the picture of him wearing scrubs and a stethoscope on the grounds of the Spanish Town Hospital was for TikTok purposes.
The Court heard evidence that Clarke deceived unsuspecting individuals into believing he was a medical doctor assigned to the Spanish Town Hospital in St. Catherine. The fake doctor promised to help victims get medical tests done abroad and visas to travel.
One of his victims allegedly paid him $1.7 million for medical tests that never materialized, a loss that profoundly affected the victim.
The fake doctor also allegedly collected $200,000 from other complainants to secure visas for them.
When Clarke neglected to fulfill his promises and return the money promptly, the victims took action, becoming suspicious and filing police reports.
After a meticulous investigation, detectives from the Spanish Town CIB managed to arrest Clarke.
There are unconfirmed reports that Andrew Clarke has been accused of obtaining money by pretense before.
According to the police, the investigation is still ongoing. They expect that more victims will come forward to file reports.
