Convicted Criminal Escaped from The Supreme Court

Convicted Criminal. The police continued their search on Friday for a convicted criminal who allegedly escaped from the Supreme Court on Thursday morning.

Law enforcement identified the convicted criminal as Anthony Williams. He allegedly jumped from a courtroom at the Supreme Court building in downtown Kingston.

Reportedly, a police chase in Downtown Kingston proved futile as the convicted criminal eluded the officers through some crevice or corner in the Downtown Kingston environment.

According to reporting by Radio Jamaica News, the strange and unexpected incident unfolded shortly after 11 o’clock. The Court found Williams guilty as charged with possession of a firearm. But moments before the Court handed down the sentence, the criminal, now convicted, leaped from the prisoner dock.

Then, in a dramatic sequence, he sprinted through the corridor past members of the force, jumped from a second-floor window of the Supreme Court, and landed in the street.

One eye-witness said he was walking by when he heard a sound and saw the person on the ground.

The authorities believed the convicted criminal might have injured himself.

According to Radio Jamaica News, attorney Kimberly Whittaker represented Williams on Thursday after his attorney withdrew from the case.

She confirmed that the Court was conducting a sentencing hearing when Anthony Williams, the criminal convicted, escaped.

“Mr. Williams, I’m appealing for you to turn yourself in to the police forthwith,” the attorney pleaded.

Williams, otherwise called ‘Pops,’ was sentenced to 18 years in prison in his absence on Thursday.

Justice Calys Wiltshire sentenced him for illegal possession of a firearm and assault at common law.

Williams, 22, is a resident of Allman Town, Kingston. He had been serving time in prison for a previous conviction.

The Court convicted the criminal in April 2022 for illegal possession of a firearm and wounding with intent. The Court sentenced him to over 12 years for illegal possession of a gun and over 14 years for wounding with intent.
