KINGSTON, Jamaica — Authorities have charged a suspect with larceny by trick and fraudulent conversion after he allegedly defrauded his pregnant girlfriend out of a significant sum of money.

The individual in question is Charles Brown, 33, a businessman residing on Hopewell Road in Waterford, St Catherine.

According to reports from the May Pen police, Brown purportedly made an agreement with the expectant mother to locate a suitable venue for her business. Upon securing a rental property, he committed to making monthly payments of $50,000 on her behalf.

But, from March to September, payments were directed to the complainant’s account, resulting in an accumulation of approximately $450,000. The woman also reportedly covered labor and renovation expenses.

As preparations for the business opening progressed, Brown allegedly claimed ownership of the venture and instructed his pregnant girlfriend to withdraw from the effort.

The complainant later learned that the actual rent was $40,000, not the initially agreed amount of $50,000.

On Sunday, September 22, the complainant filed a report with the police, and the next day, September 23, Brown voluntarily surrendered to law enforcement.

Afterward, the police arrested and charged Brown. His court appearance is forthcoming.
