On Friday, August 25, 2023, Deputy Commissioner in charge of crime, Fitz Bailey, reported that the female suspect the police arrested concerning the abduction and murder of eight-year-old Danielle Rowe was pointed out on an identification parade.
The police identified the suspect as Kayodi Satchell, age 30, a dental assistant of Padmore district, Red Hills, St. Andrew and Twickenham Park, St. Catherine.
She had been in police custody since Friday, August 11, 2023.
DCP Bailey said the breakthrough in the case reflects the “commitment, patience, and due diligence” of the lead investigator.
He commended the team involved in the investigation and noted that the suspect was an intimate partner of Danielle Rowe’s father.
DCP Bailey said the police still have not established a motive for the murder. However, the police will charge the suspect following a question-and-answer session.
Young Danielle was abducted from Braeton Primary and Infant School in Portmore, St. Catherine, by someone on June 8, 2023. Later in the day, a good samaritan found her in St. Andrew with a slashed throat.
Following an emergency, she died in the Bustamante Hospital for Children two days later.
Two porters charged after allegedly raping a patient at a St Catherine health facility.
Police in St Catherine had arrested and charged two male porters at a health facility in the parish with rape and grievous sexual assault stemming from an incident on Friday, August 18, 2023.
The police charged Shemar ‘Usher’ Edwards, age 20, of Clifton, Bernard Lodge, Portmore, St Catherine, and Corey ‘Shortman’ Orr, age 31, of Gravel Heights in Spanish Town, St Catherine, with rape and grievous sexual assault.
According to a release from the Spanish Town police, at about 8:00 p.m., on August 18, 2023, a female patient went to a vending machine inside the the health facility to make a purchase.
On her way back to the ward, Edwards reportedly led her to another area of the facility, where he and Orr allegedly sexually assaulted her and Orr raped her.
The victim reported the incident to a nurse, and the nurse alerted the police.
The police later arrested and charged both suspects.
Their court appearance date is pending.
FLA said licensed firearms owners cannot take their guns to Chris Brown’s concert.
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Firearms Licensing Authority asked Licensed firearm holders attending the Chris Brown Concert at the National Stadium on Sunday, August 27, 2023, not to take their guns to town. The FLA said provisions are made at the offices of the Firearm Licensing Authority (FLA) on Old Hope Road in St Andrew for the safekeeping of their firearms while the concert is in session.
According to a police release, the FLA will receive firearms at 2:00 p.m., on the day of the event until the event ends.
The police stressed that there would be no facility for storing firearms provided at the National Stadium.
In addition, the police said no provisions would be made at the Stadium Police or any other police station in the surrounding area to store firearms.
Strict adherence is required.
