Police confirmed five people were shot in the Beryllium attack in Mandeville.

Beryllium Security, which is supposed to be Jamaica’s premier courier service moving money for the Banking Industry, has become a sitting duck for criminals. Robbing Beryllium is like taking candy from a baby. Still, the company markets itself as a security juggernaut. Its most recent security failure occurred at a Scotiabank in Mandeville, Manchester, on Friday, August 25, 2023.

The Mandeville police have confirmed five bystanders got injured during Friday’s attack on Beryllium Limited’s security team by armed thugs at the Scotiabank’s Ward Avenue location in Mandeville, Manchester.

A police source told the media late Friday that two of the five victims have undergone surgery.

According to the police source

“One male received a gunshot injury to his head and needed surgery. A female who received gunshots to her abdomen also needed surgery. One female received a gunshot to her hip. One male received a gunshot to his right thigh, and a man received an abrasion to his right arm.”

According to reporting, at about 5:00 pm on Friday, August 25, 2023, Men armed with high-powered weapons attacked a Beryllium security team at the Scotiabank’s Ward Avenue location in Mandeville, Manchester. They stole an undetermined sum of money amid heavy gunfire.

A release from Beryllium Limited confirmed that no security team members received any injuries during the shootout that ensued between them and the gunmen.

According to reports, at least four gunmen executed the attack.

Video footage of the attack went viral on social media. In one footage, two men armed with high-powered weapons are seen hauling a white bag, presumably containing cash, as they escape.

The police source said the robbers escaped unarmed with two bags containing cash.

The authorities are yet to determine how much money the thugs escape with.

Two cops charged with soliciting money from a motorist were granted bail.

The two rogue police officers accused of soliciting $3,000 from a motorist to avoid prosecution were granted $650,000 bail Friday, August 25, 2023, when they appeared in the St. Catherine Parish Court.

The police identified the two law enforcement officers as Constables Romand Boothe and Marlon Hamilton. Attorney at Law John Jacobs and Courtney Rowe represent the men.

Senior Parish Judge Jacqueline Wilcott offered the cops bail and ordered them to return to court on October 9, 2023.

The judge stipulated that both accused report to the police three days per week and surrender all travel documents on condition of bail.

According to the allegation, on August 13, 2023, the police officers were on traffic duty along Mandela Highway in St. Catherine. They stopped a motorist towing another vehicle–according to the Road Traffic Law, towing on the highway is illegal.

The cops allegedly offered to forego prosecuting the driver if he gave them $3,000. The driver reported the matter to the Inspectorate and Professional Standards Oversight Bureau.

The men were later arrested and charged.
