The Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) executed an operation in Manchester, resulting in the seizure of approximately 2 kilograms of cocaine and 12 pounds of ganja.
This operation culminated in the conviction of a Jamaican national on Monday, September 23.
Mahlon Davis, a 38-year-old resident of Ewarton, St Catherine, has been charged with violations of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
Reports show that law enforcement officers were patrolling the area when they observed Davis operating a Toyota Axio motorcar with a female passenger.
Upon signaling for Davis to stop, he complied. A search of the vehicle unveiled two garbage bags filled with ganja in the trunk.
Additionally, one kilogram of cocaine was located concealed behind the glove compartment of the car.
A further search revealed another kilogram of cocaine hidden in another compartment of the vehicle.
Authorities proceeded to arrest both Davis and the female passenger. But, the police later released her during the investigation.
On Monday, September 23, Davis entered a guilty plea to charges of possession and trafficking of illegal substances when he appeared before the Manchester Parish Court.
As a result, the court sentenced Davis to:
- Six months imprisonment for possession of ganja or JMD 15,000;
- Six months imprisonment for trafficking ganja or JMD 105,816.00;
- Six months for possession of cocaine or JMD 500,000 and
- Four months suspended sentence for two years or $500,000 for trafficking cocaine.
The sentences will run concurrently if the fines are unpaid.
Davis will return to Court on Thursday, January 23, 2025, for an asset forfeiture hearing.
Death of Farmer and Gunman Investigated in St Catherine.
Police investigators are now examining the circumstances surrounding the deaths of a farmer and an alleged gunman in the Bellas Gate community of St Catherine on Tuesday night.
Authorities have identified the farmer as 20-year-old Jam-mania Letts, who was also known by the aliases ‘Zungo’ and ‘Zeng,’ residing in Cocoa Ridge, Bellas Gate.

The other individual involved has been identified as Odane Jeminson, also referred to as ‘Mawga Dawg,’ and he, too, lived in Bellas Gate.
According to reports at approximately 9:20 p.m., Letts was at a local bar when Jeminson entered the venue, brandishing a firearm.
In a bid to disarm Jeminson, patrons engaged in a struggle with him, during which he received severe injuries.
A shot was fired from the weapon amidst the altercation, striking Letts.
Law enforcement personnel transported the injured man to Spanish Town Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The police have since confiscated a Beretta pistol fitted with a magazine containing 12 rounds of ammunition from the incident scene.
