A Radio Jamaica Online article published Monday highlights the insightful observations of renowned pollster Don Anderson, who suggests that the ongoing discussions surrounding Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness’ financials may actually serve to invigorate voter interest ahead of the general parliamentary election set for next year.
Mr. Anderson notes that while low voter interest has historically been a challenge, there is a promising trend of Jamaicans becoming more engaged and ready to participate in the upcoming election.
The seasoned pollster points out that the lively exchanges between the Jamaica Labour Party and the People’s National Party are stimulating conversations that enhance public intrigue.
“I think right now there’s a clear sense of both parties gearing up for the election… Our data supports this, showing that more people are recognizing that elections are likely to occur before September next year. While there’s no obligation for it to happen, the public seems poised and ready. I truly believe that the current developments will not dampen spirits, but positively boost the interest in voting in the next election,” he reflected.
Mr. Anderson indicated that his company, Market Research Services Limited, is actively engaging with the public to gauge voter intentions.
“We’re actually in the field this week, focusing on potential voter turnout. I expect a significant increase in intention—how this translates into reality is yet to be determined—but there’s definitely a heightened enthusiasm for voting compared to the February election and the last general election,” said the pollster, a guest on the Morning Agenda on Power 106.
Furthermore, Mr. Anderson envisions that the Integrity Commission report could create a shift in support, potentially favoring the People’s National Party, while also motivating undecided PNP supporters to participate in the voting process.
He acknowledged, however, that this outcome will depend on the final findings from the Financial Investigations Division.
Vybz Kartel effect
In an exciting twist, the public is invited to weigh in on the impactful presence of entertainer Vybz Kartel at the PNP’s 86th Annual Conference, recently held at the National Arena.
The pollster expressed optimism that responses from the public should be ready next week.
Mr. Anderson believes that the PNP is enthusiastic about leveraging the artiste’s appeal to draw the support of young individuals aged 18 to 40.
