PM urges J’cans to pray for the nation
KINGSTON, Jamaica—A contrite Prime Minister, Andrew Holness, urged Jamaicans to embrace the upcoming Lenten season, which will run from February 14 to March 28, 2024, as a time for prayer and reflection for the nation.
The Prime Minister made this heartfelt plea during a special prayer session held with members of the Cabinet and the Jamaica Umbrella Group of Churches on Monday, February 12, 2024, at the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM).
“There are so many challenges facing our nation, and there may be challenges facing you personally. Pray; give thanks; pray in supplication. Prayer recognizes the limit of man and at the same time acknowledges and is humbled by the awesome power of God,” he noted.

Prime Minister Holness went on to offer heartfelt encouragement to citizens, urging them to use this sacred season to bring their deepest desires before God.
“You may not know any special prayers, but the National Anthem is a prayer. I encourage you to whisper that in your quiet time. You don’t have to know a special prayer to communicate with God. Let Him know your needs, your challenges,” he said. “There are so many things beyond our control–So many uncertainties in our lives and so many fears that we have to face. Take time out to connect spiritually with God.”
Prime Minister, Andrew Holness
“Ask for His comfort and direction. Pray for protection against evil powers, wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. Pray for the safety and security of our people. Pray for the increase in peace and productivity. Pray for the sick, infirm, and vulnerable among us. Pray for God’s blessings on Jamaica, the land we love,” he appealed.
