Police named students killed in Monday’s triple murder in Salt Spring.

SALT SPRING, ST. JAMES, Jamaica – Law enforcement authorities in St. James have identified the two children and the man killed in a triple murder along the Flower Hill main road in Salt Spring, St. James, on Monday evening, November 6, 2023.

They are Justin Perry, age 7, and Nahcoliva Smith, age 9, both students; and Tevin Hayle, a.k.a. ‘Bancel,’ age 26. All three victims are from Salt Spring in St. James.

They met their demise when a gunman opened fire on a taxi they were traveling in. Police believe Hayle was the intended target of the gunman.

According to reporting, at about 5:20 p.m., the taxi operator was driving his grey 2006 motorcar from Salt Spring heading to Montego Bay with Perry and Smith on board.

Hayle reportedly stopped the vehicle along Flower Hill Main Road and asked for a ride to his home. As Hayle entered the car, a man armed with a rifle emerged from the bushes along the right side of the roadway and opened fire at the vehicle, hitting Hayle, Smith, and Perry in the head and upper body.

The taxi driver drove to the Montego Hills Police Station.

The police rushed Hayle and both students to the Cornwall Regional Hospital, where the authorities pronounced them dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, as word of the brutal slaying of the two students spread, Prime Minister Andrew Holness issued a statement condemning the shooting.

“Violence in all its forms is abhorrent and must be strongly punished. When violence touches our innocent children, who have their entire lives ahead of them, and robs our country of their potential, all of society must stand up and say, ‘Enough is enough!'”

An unidentified man was shot and killed in Spanish Town.

BURKE ROAD, SPANISH TOWN, ST. CATHERINE, Jamaica – St. Catherine North police are yet to ascertain the identity of a man whom thugs gunned down in Spanish Town, St. Catherine, on Sunday night, November 5, 2023.

According to reports, at about 7:30 p.m., the man was on Burke Road when a Toyota Mark X motorcar pulled up alongside him, and shots rang out from inside the vehicle, hitting him multiple times. Then, the vehicle drove away.

The man, whom the police described as about five feet six inches tall, was clad in blue pants, a black shirt, and multi-colored sneakers. He was found suffering from gunshot wounds.

The police rushed him to the Spanish Town Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The police did not establish a motive for the shooting.

A St Mary man severed another man’s hand during an argument.

HIGHGATE, St MARY, Jamaica – Highgate Police arrested a suspect after he allegedly severed another man’s hand with a machete during an altercation on Monday, October 30, 2023.

The police named the suspect as Cleon Williams, also known as ‘Gavin,’ aged 36, a laborer and mechanic of Hibiscus Avenue in Highgate.

According to the authorities, at about 5:30 p.m. on Monday, October 30, the two men were at the Highgate Town Center when an argument developed between them.

Tempers flared, and Williams took a machete from his vehicle and chased his victim. The victim fell, and Williams chopped him on his arm, severing it.

Williams then proceeded to chop the man’s arm, severing it.

The police assisted the man to the hospital, where the authorities treated him.

Williams turned himself over to the police on Thursday, November 2, 2023. The police later charged him with attempted murder and assault at common law.

He will appear in the Richmond Parish Court to answer the charges on Wednesday, November 8, 2023.
