Cop Killer: Suspect in Supermarket Murder Caught. An alleged cop killer is in custody after a robbery and murder at a supermarket on Barnett Street in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Police have apprehended the suspect believed to have fatally shot a suspended police officer and stolen $3 million in cash.

The St. Catherine North Police apprehended the alleged cop killer in Spanish Town, St Catherine, during a targeted operation.

According to the police report, at about 5:54 p.m. on Monday, June 16, 2025, 37-year-old Garry Hamilton was fatally shot by an assailant. Hamilton was a cop who had been on suspension from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) since 2018. At the time of the incident, he worked as a security guard. He was stationed at the entrance of Chen High Limited Supermarket on Barnett Street.

Eyewitnesses say the alleged cop killer, masked and armed, approached Hamilton and opened fire. He hit him in the head, chest, and abdomen. Then, the assailant proceeded inside the supermarket.

Once inside, the alleged cop killer reportedly robbed a sales representative at gunpoint. He took $3 million in cash. Then he fled the scene on foot.

Hamilton joined the St. James Division of the JCF in 2014. The authorities suspended him from the force in 2018 after charging him with operating a stolen vehicle.

The court convicted him in 2023 and handed him a two-year suspended sentence.

He passed away before he was officially let go from the police force.

The quick capture of the suspect marks a significant advancement in the investigation.

Police say they will release further details as the investigation progresses.

In the meantime, Hamilton was the 24th murder victim due to gun violence in St. James since the start of this year.

Nevertheless, St. James has seen a significant reduction in major crimes so far this year.

Compared to the same period last year, St. recorded 73 murders and 65 shooting incidents. So far this year, there have been 26 shooting incidents.
