The police said all three fatal police shootings occurred during reported shootouts, which led to the seizure of illegal firearms.

The first fatal police shooting in the series occurred on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, around 5 a.m. in the Habitat Housing Scheme near Trafalgar Road, Kingston 11.

During an operation, the police fatally shot Omario Coleman, also known as ‘Dujon,’ who was just 18 years old.

Reports indicated that the police raided a premises on Majestic Pen Road in search of wanted men.

Upon entering the dwelling, a door flew open suddenly. A male was later identified as Coleman. He allegedly pointed a firearm at one of the officers.

In fear for his life, the officer reportedly fired three rounds from his M16 rifle, hitting Coleman.

The police seized a Taurus 9mm pistol and five rounds of ammunition at the scene.

Officers rushed Coleman to the hospital. It was too late to save him. Hospital authorities pronounced him dead upon arrival.

Investigators linked Coleman to two gangs operating in the community.

Besides, the police stated that Coleman was a person of interest in several major crimes. These crimes include the murder of hotel worker Jadee Clarke on May 27, 2025. There was also the double shooting of two Seaview Gardens residents on April 4, 2025.

The second fatal police shooting occurred at approximately 5:31 a.m. on Monday. Police in St. Catherine shot and killed an unidentified suspect during an alleged confrontation in Redwood, Guys Hill, St. Catherine.

Officers reportedly recovered a 9mm pistol with a magazine containing three cartridges from the scene.

The third fatal police shooting occurred at about 8:50 p.m. Police in St. Mary shot and wounded a suspect in another alleged confrontation and recovered one firearm in Jacks River, Oracabessa, St. Mary.

The police transported the unidentified male to the hospital, where the authorities later pronounced him dead.

The Independent Commission of Investigations, INDECOM, has launched investigations into the shootings.

The three fatal police shootings happened while there were increasing concerns about illegal firearms from America in Jamaica. There is also a high number of fatalities involving police.
