May Pen Police Charged Murder Suspect Vivian Campbell. Detectives assigned to the May Pen Police Department in Jamaica charged a Clarendon man with murder and other firearm-related charges.
The charges stemmed from the brutal, fatal shooting of a laborer on April 16, 2025, in the parish.
The accused, Vivian Campbell, also known as ‘Dingo,’ is 26, from New Bowens, Clarendon. He faces extra charges. These include unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon. He is also charged with unauthorized possession of ammunition and using a firearm to commit a felony.
Authorities identified the deceased as 35-year-old Richard Mitchell. He was also known as ‘Brown man,’ a laborer from Poinciana Drive in New Bowens, Clarendon.
The May Pen police reported that at about 8:10 p.m. on April 16, 2025, Mitchell was seated inside a motorcar. He was on the compound of a business establishment on New Bowen’s main road.
Moments later, Campbell and another man allegedly approached Mitchell. After a brief conversation, the men reportedly opened fire, hitting Mitchell on his upper body before fleeing on foot.
Concerned residents summoned the May Pen police. Upon arrival, they found Mitchell suffering from gunshot wounds. They promptly transported the injured man to the hospital. Still, it was too late. Hospital authorities pronounced Mitchell dead on arrival.
The May Pen Police acted quickly, launched an investigation, and collected eyewitness statements. But they did not prove a motive for the murder.
On Tuesday, April 22, Campbell surrendered to the May Pen police station. Investigators later arrested and formally charged him after a question-and-answer session.
The police have yet to decide on a court date for Campbell.
