Police-Involved Shootout In St James: INDECOM Investigates. The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is investigating the deadly shooting of three men by police during an alleged shootout Tuesday in Orange, St. James.
A preliminary police report indicated that armed with an arrest warrant, the Area One Fugitive Apprehension Team visited a premises searching for a named suspect.
Upon the approach of the police into the building, three men allegedly opened fire on them.
In fear for their lives, the cops took evasive action and returned fire, wounding three men and recovered three firearms.
Hospital authorities later pronounced the victims killed in the Police-Involved Shootout deceased.
Law enforcement identified one of the deceased in the Police-Involved Shootout as Alex McGhie, otherwise called “Scampy.”
The police said Mcghie was the alleged reputed leader of the Hellgate Gang in Rose Heights. He was the subject of the warrant. The other men involved in the Police-Involved Shootout remain unidentified.
According to ACP Miller, the police have evidence that linked McGhie to Friday night’s murder of social media personality 23-year-old Marvin Samuels, also known as “41 Busshead,” from Rose Heights.
ACP stated that McGhie played a crucial role in the rising violence in Rose Heights. He also mentioned that the recent shootings are connected to two gangs vying for territorial control.
Following Friday’s killing of the TikToker, gunmen opened gunfire on a house in the community. And on Saturday, two other people were shot and wounded in Rose Heights on Saturday morning.
INDECOM reported that none of the officers involved used a body-worn camera during the Police-Involved Shootout.
Further, INDECOM stated a team is conducting the investigative inquiries, including the examination, processing, and packaging of evidential material and bodies of the deceased men.
They urged persons with information about the identity of the men killed in the Police-Involved Shootout to contact INDECOM.
So far, in 2024, the security forces have shot and killed 183 Jamaican citizens. Fifteen of those fatalities occurred in December.
