Homicide Trends are down, but the headcount surpassed 1K. The latest government crime statistics indicated that Jamaica will again end 2024 with over 1,000 murders.
Up to November 15, the authorities have recorded 1,011 murders. But even though the figure is high by international standards. It is 244 or 20% less than the number of homicides recorded for the corresponding period last year.
Prime Minister Holness has argued that the 20 percent decrease in Homicide Trends proves the government’s security measures are working.
But, reasonable people do not think a 20 percent decrease in Homicide Trends is acceptable. When Mr. Holness was the Opposition Leader, he promised the Jamaican people that only he alone can solve the crime problem.
Mr. Holness was adamant he would fix Jamaica’s biggest problem. He even told the people that they would sleep with their windows and doors open when he became Prime Minister.
Still, after eight years at the helm, Mr. Holness has barely done anything to fix the crime problem, overlooking the ongoing Homicide Trends that plague the country.
Research shows that Prime Minister Andrew Holness is all cow and no beef regarding crime.
“Under Prime Minister Andrew Holness’ leadership, Jamaica has seen significant fluctuations in its homicide trends. Its highest murder count was recorded in 2022, with 1,421 killings. On the other hand, the lowest murder count occurred in 2023, with a 7.8% reduction in murders compared to the previous year. This trend continued into early 2024, with a further 20% decrease in murders relative to 2023.”
