A law enforcement officer from the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch is now in critical condition in the hospital after an alarming incident during a traffic stop along Old Hope Road in St. Andrew on Thursday, August 8, 2024.
Reports show that at approximately 6:00 p.m., two officers were conducting patrol duties along the roadway when they pulled over a black Toyota Fielder for a traffic violation. During the interaction with the officers, the motorist abruptly drove off, striking one of the officers and fleeing the scene.
A backup team promptly responded and swiftly transported the injured police officer to the hospital, where they were admitted in critical condition.
During a radio interview with Radio Jamaica, Assistant Commissioner of Police Gary McKenzie, who heads the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch (PSTEB), confirmed that the officer sustained multiple injuries and underwent various medical tests.
The head of traffic enforcement also revealed that the authorities located the vehicle involved in the incident abandoned in the Liguanea area in St Andrew. but, as of now, the driver remains at large.
Law enforcement officials have detained the owner of the vehicle for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.

On Thursday, August 8, 2024, detectives from the St. Andrew North Police Division arrested and charged a suspect in connection with the shooting and injuring of three men in Burnt Shop, Lawrence Tavern, St Andrew on April 22, 2024.

The police identified the accused as Carey Joseph, 47, a mechanic residing on Cool Shade Drive, Kingston 8. he is facing serious charges including wounding with intent, using a firearm to commit a felony, possession of a prohibited weapon, and unauthorized possession of ammunition.
According to the Lawrence Tavern police, the victims were shot multiple times by Joseph and another individual who fled the scene afterwards. The injured men were promptly transported to the hospital for treatment. Joseph’s court appearance is pending as the investigation unfolds.

Police in St Ann have charged a tour guide for allegedly sexually assaulting a customer at the conclusion of their tour on Tuesday, August 6, 2024.

The accused, identified as Narvardo Cousins, also known as ‘Diego,’ aged 27 and from Three Hills, St Mary, was the scheduled tour guide for a female customer on the day of the incident, according to the Ocho Rios police.
It is reported that Cousins took the complainant to a secluded area at the end of the tour and proceeded to sexually assault them.
Following the complainant’s report, the police launched an investigation and subsequently charged Cousins after a positive identification in an identification parade on Thursday, August 8, 2024. Cousins’ court date is pending.
19-y-o allegedly breaks into woman’s house and hides under bed.
Police in St Catherine charged a teenager after he allegedly broke into a woman’s dwelling on August 2, 2024, and hid under her bed.
The police have identified the accused as Daniel McDonald, a 19-year-old resident of Naggo Head, Portmore, St Catherine. He has been formally charged with housebreaking with intent.
According to the police, McDonald allegedly unlawfully entered a house in Cumberland, Portmore, through a bathroom window at approximately 9:00 p.m. on August 2, 2024, and concealed himself underneath a bed.
Upon returning home, the complainant reportedly discovered the accused under her bed and confronted him. A physical altercation ensued, following which McDonald departed the scene.
The complainant subsequently filed a report with the police, leading to an investigation and McDonald’s subsequent arrest and charges.
McDonald’s court appearance date is pending.
