On Tuesday night, June 18, 2024, a police constable who had been placed on interdiction by the JCF was tragically killed by a lone assailant in Breezy Hill, Comfort district, Manchester.
The deceased constable, identified as Mario Thomas, also known as Matt, was among several customers at a bar in Breezy Hill when a man dressed in a black hoody entered the establishment at approximately 10:44 p.m.
After the assailant’s entrance, Constable Thomas fled the bar toward Webber’s district. Moments later, several gunshots were heard, prompting the police to respond. Three spent casings were found along the road in front of the bar, along with a bullet hole in the constable’s vehicle.
Despite efforts by residents and the police to locate him, the constable could not be found until around 6 a.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, when a resident stumbled upon his body.
It was revealed by the constable’s mother that her son was under investigation in connection to a shooting in Porus, Manchester. She also disclosed that there had been multiple attempts on his life since he opened a bar.
The police have yet to establish a motive for the shooting. The investigation is ongoing.
The mother of a St. Catherine boy was accused of assisting and facilitating child abuse.
In St. Catherine, a mother of a seven-year-old boy has been charged with aiding and abetting child abuse. The police accused her of failing to report her husband after he physically assaulted the boy.
The accused was charged on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, and granted station bail for $100,000. Her court appearance is scheduled for July 5, 2024, the same date as her husband, whose bail a St Catherine Parish Court Judge extended on Tuesday, June 18, 2024.
According to the police, the woman’s husband went to the boy’s school after she received a complaint about the boy’s behavior and physically assaulted him. Following an investigation, the police arrested and charged the husband, which subsequently led to his wife’s arrest and charge.
Police Seize Gun and Detain Five Men in Frazer’s Content, St. Catherine.
The St. Catherine North Police conducted a significant operation in the community of Frazer’s Content, resulting in the seizure of an illegal firearm and the detention of five individuals. Superintendent Hopton Nicholson, the commanding officer, stated that the operation was launched in response to escalating violence in the area. Recent weeks have seen an increase in criminal activities, including shootings and homicides.

During the operation, the police apprehended and searched individuals of interest, leading to the recovery of a 9mm Glock pistol with a magazine and 18 live 9mm rounds. As a result, five suspects were taken into custody, and the St. Catherine North CIB is currently conducting further investigations.
Superintendent Nicholson identified two persons believed to be responsible for recent criminal activities in the community: Kemar Miller, also known as ‘Pantyman,’ and an individual known as Javaughn or ‘Puku.’ The senior police officer is urging residents to assist in locating these two men.
